When Dr. James Jacobs heard that he had been nominated as one of Houston's top doctors, he was honored. To be nominated for such a prestigious award among your peers in a city that is as medically advanced as Houston, is indeed an honor. As a podiatrist, Jacobs has been practicing as a podiatric physician in the Katy area for over fifteen years.

Dr. Jacobs does much more than just take care of Katy's feet. Since making his home in Katy, Jacobs has been a strong supporter of the community, serving as an active member of the Greater Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Katy. In August of 2004, Jacobs began Podiatry Consultants of Texas, an organization that provides podiatric physicians to long-term care facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living centers and retirement communities where there is a need for podiatric care and or services.

Beginning with two doctors serving seven facilities, today the organization has grown to include eight doctors working with eighty-six facilities across Texas. "This is a much needed service to patients and residents of those communities. The doctors in the organization provide consistent podiatric healthcare services to the patients and / or residents who otherwise may have a hard time receiving proper foot healthcare and services," says Dr. Jacobs.

"Working with the organization is a great way for young doctors who are just starting out on their own as they develop and build their own practice. Their affiliation with the organization allows them to have access to a consistent patient base as they sharpen the skills they have acquired by providing on-going quality foot health care services in a compassionate manner," Jacob says.

Another project Jacobs is involved with that directly impacts the Katy and West Houston area is the Foundations West Houston Surgical Center. The Center consists of a group of sixteen doctors who partnered together in 2002 with the vision to open a state-of-the-art outpatient surgical center in the West Houston area. At the Center, patients receive excellent personalized medical care from doctors who are committed to delivering the highest quality medical services based on the patient's individual's needs.

Aside from his work within the community, Jacobs has also volunteered his time and expertise to those who do not have the privilege of receiving quality medical care. In 2005, Jacobs traveled to Reynosa, Mexico with the Texas Podiatric Medical Association to do treatment and surgery. "It's extremely rewarding to see the look of relief and happiness in the faces of those who do not have the appropriate resources that we are so lucky to have here," Jacob says.

Dr. Jacobs enjoys traveling when he can spare time to get away. He likes learning and exploring different cultures and geographies. Currently, he is planning trips to India, Buenos Aires, and London for the coming year. He says that of all the places he has visited, Holland has been his favorite. Originally, his family is from Holland and being able to see and experience the culture of his family was exhilarating and gratifying. His favorites include the windmills and the tulips that mark the landscape, making the views of the countryside beautiful and breath-taking.

Dr. Jacobs says he has big plans in store for the coming year, some of which will have a direct impact on the Katy area. Though it is still too early to disclose what they will be, watch for this Top Doc to continue making a tangible impact on the needs of those within our community.
